This is nothing new. Buying digital and streaming only versions of media just means you are licensing it. If you care, either break the DRM and reencode, or just pirate it directly.

Probably. Whatever standard governs side by side video likely isn’t supported in Safari.
Do you mean the whole thing or something specific like free commercial use being illegal?
I think the answer to both are the people who created the art, text, etc that these generative AI tools are going to make mostly obsolete.
Imagine both the annoyance and job security having to manage MS-DOS and 3.1 systems for a railroad would entail.
I’m arguing for free commercial use being illegal, absolutely.
And that fee should scale based on who is using it for commercial purposes. Microsoft and Google should be paying far, far out the ass for their data.
I saw other people say that later in the thread. Do we know if that’s why this execution caused pain?
My understanding is that the feeling of suffocation is only due to a build up of CO2. So filling a room (or a mask I guess in this case) should not cause that feeling. Existential dread, fear, etc are obviously not affected, but it shouldn’t feel like they’re being strangled and can’t breathe.
You’re right though, in that obviously doing something inhumane such as killing people can’t be made humane. Its a paradox. And with our system specifically, I don’t think there is a way to do the death penalty “right” because the system isn’t just. Or even effective and logical.
I’d be fine with this argument if these generative tools were only being used by non-profits. But they aren’t.
So I think there has to be some compromise here. Some type of licensing fee should be paid by these generative AI tools.
I agree that it is insane. But considering that I live in a country with an unhinged gun culture, it is part of life.
And weirdly, you have to strike a balance. You don’t want to be complacent and forget you’re carrying a gun or treat it like it isn’t the deadly weapon that it is. But you have to be comfortable and familiar enough with it to be able to go about your day and be able to reliably draw and fire accurately if a situation occurs where the gun is necessary. Otherwise, there is no point in carrying at all.
Maybe a good comparison is driving or operating heavy machinery? You need to be aware at all times that you are operating something that could kill you and others in an instant at all times. You need to know where you are, where others are, etc. But you also need to be comfortable and familar enough with your vehicle or equipment that you can operate it smoothly and react to unforseen events.
No, just autocorrect fail. Meant I made sure regularly that I wasn’t printing. I didn’t want it to show. That would break the whole point of conceal carry. And I live in a state where open carry w/o a license is legal so I could if I wanted. But I didn’t want to.
Yeah, autocorrect fail. Meant that I wasn’t printing. Which means I made sure that there wasn’t an obvious gun bulge or something visible.
I have no idea how anyone can “forget” they are carrying. I carried fairly regularly for years before letting my CCW expire during COVID. And I was always VERY aware that I was carrying, checked regularly to make sure I wasn’t printing, and what places allowed and didn’t allow carrying.
To me, forgetting you are carrying a gun and going to the airport is a negligent as leaving your gun in a bathroom. It shows you are not treating it with the respect and caution that should be required in order to own a gun.
EDIT: Clarified that I carried for years and made sure I wasn’t printing.
I’m interested to see how this thing reviews. But, I think it is DOA.
It is way too expensive, especially to not have MagSafe magnets built in. It only works with the iPhone 14 and 15 which are the third and fourth generation of iPhones that have MagSafe.
The moment for physical keyboards on phones passed like a decade ago. For a phone form factor, a touch screen keyboard is going to be faster and less tiring to use in almost every case. And if you do want a physical keyboard, there are plenty of options that don’t cost as much.
It’s a very weird product decision IMO.
If I’m thinking of the same one, the problem was that the keyboard was a clone of the Blackberry keyboard. This one should be fine when it comes to patents.
Aren’t the Russian hypersonic missiles essentially just regular ballistic missiles? I remember reading something saying that calling them hypersonic was a stretch, and they have been intercepted by standard missile defense systems which actual hypersonic missiles wouldn’t be.
It might even be from before then. I could swear I saw this copypasta back on the GameFAQs message board in the early 2000’s.
I wouldn’t call it an obsession, but there does need to be a critical mass of users before a social networks become useful.
It’s definitely more than the market is not large enough or willing to pay enough to make it worth while. A phone with 3 USB ports, a physical keyboard and a huge ass battery?
That’s not a phone, that’s a laptop. The amount of people willing to pay for that is going to be miniscule.
If you can’t afford basic necessities on minimum wage, the wage is too low and the job doesn’t deserve to exist IMO.
Especially when so many of the largest companies are profitable and making more and more money. This system is unsustainable. It also causes societal unrest which leads to extremism. I don’t understand the mindset behind it, the increasing polarization as things get more and more unaffordable seems to support the theory.
The people who buy something like this (hopefully) have enough money where $3,500 doesn’t matter or are developers who want to get in early on something that might be big in a few versions.
Everyone else should avoid.
