That’s a fair take. I can relate to the feeling of uncertainty. When I make small donations of a couple of euros I have to push away my feelings that the donation could be seen as insultingly low. It’s hard to judge what a “fair” price is. But after all, many donation buttons say “Buy me a coffee” so I would hope the amount is appreciated either way.

You’re not throwing money out the window though, you’re giving it directly to someone. Someone who has used their craft to create something that has value to you. I’m not necessarily criticising you for not donating, I just want to shift your perspective that your money wouldn’t be valued by other people.
I’ll un-brainfart you. If the price of the cheeses per volume is the same, and both three and four cheeses fill the same container, the price would remain the same 🙂

Technology@lemmy.world•Nearly all of Spotify has been scraped and is available via torrentsEnglish
9·25 days agoI don’t think many data hoarders are sitting on the AI generated stuff 😁
It even got the ring 😄
I’ve had Spotify since it basically released. I fully switched to a self hosted music library about 5 months ago. I imagine I’ve supported artists more in those 5 months than I did during my 18-ish years of Spotify premium. I still use Soulseek for large artists or quite old albums, but most new releases and remix tracks I pay for.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you had to replace the floppy disk save symbol in software with a new symbol for saving what would you choose and why?
71·1 month agoI wonder if we would would really “expect” a new safe icon. Most modern software has auto-saving. Games for example often just use a spinning circle to indicate it’s saving. Word and google docs just say “don’t worry, we’re continuously saving your work” when you hit Ctrl + S.
I imagine if you want to save something locally you have the downward arrow for downloading, or some other icon for moving and copying files.

12·1 month agoI didn’t think much of what the “correct” location would be. But i have a general kinda everything share at /var/share/[music,books,video,user folders, repo]. And then any caching or config data sits in that dockers home folder under /etc/docker/[jellyfin,immich,kavita,etc] together with its docker-compose file. All docker services run under the group user so they all have access to the share.

World News@lemmy.world•US forces seize oil tanker off Venezuela coastEnglish
6·1 month agoI don’t think there is much they can do. No one is going to want to stand up against the US in this, and any escalation from Venezuela would be incredibly costly for them. I suppose there are two things they can hope for; hope the US population throws up enough of a stink the trump changes his mind or wait for something else to come around to occupy his attention.

11·1 month agoPretty much the entire OSM sphere is developed and populated by volunteers. And they you come along and say they should take their heads out of their ass. Yes, the burden is on the users, because the developers are users themselves. No, not everyone has programming skills, but even nontechnical people can still contribute to the dataset with bus station locations and bus routes.
It’s completely okay to not use a piece of software, and if you have some feedback to give that might sway you, great! But don’t insult the developers because they have limited time and resources.

11·1 month agoI mean it’s open source, so you can help out. And there’s no standard for publishing public transport time tables, so it is an incredibly hard task to stay on top of updates from even a single country’s bus and train companies.

You. When you said “we should” that does kinda imply you’re willing to engage in this as well :P
