  • I enjoyed it a lot! Its very popcorn-y and I breezed through it really fast. The hard scifi setting is really cool and feels very fleshed out and verisimilitudinous, the characters I was pretty lukewarm on tho, and it did feel pretty predictable but I’m hoping that will all get better in the sequels and it is just sortof “first bookisms” on that front.

I knew going in that the writers are kind connected to George RR Martin, and I felt like there were some cross setting parallel ideas between it and ASoIaF. Mid-read I heard that it had evolved out of a play by post forum rpg, which I thought was really cool in concept, but I also started to see the strings a little bit, y’know?

Are there other bouldering gyms around, you might tey a smaller more neighborhood sized gym? Where I live there are a few, and I can’t imagine making real friends at the big crowded ones, but I’m a little over a year in and have made lots of acquaintances at my smaller gym. Only have done something outside of the gym with one person though, and it was pretty low impact, just online gaming. It does feel like progress though.

As for a “script” I basically just introduce myself after I’ve seen someone a few times regularly, (Hey, I’ve seen ypu around a bunch at the same times as me, I’m Glemek.) or if a conversation happened naturally. Which usually starts with an offer for advice on a problem they are working, or generally commiserating about a difficult problem.

My gym can be crowded but usually is pretty sparse when I am there, but I basically just try to be friendly to everyone, be an encouraging presence at the gym, and see if there are people who would make sense to be potential outside the gym friends.

I think the simple answer to why Andor, is that he is the type of character Tony Gilroy wanted to write about. His being situated in the star wars universe is mostly unimportant, aside from being an avenue to get disney funding. Andor could easily be sci-fi unrelated to Star Wars at all, there are some misc easter eggs and the Empire exists, but it’d be super easy to file the serial numbers off, and change some of the aesthetics and names.

Andor isn’t significant to “skywalker saga” Star Wars, he’s just some dude who is pretty competent who starts as a self interested disaffected lowlife dude, and who becomes radicalized to join the nascent rebel alliance. It’s just a good story, and I’m glad Tony Gilroy was able to get disney bux to fund it. Its easily the best Star Wars that Disney has made, maybe that anyone has made if I take off my rose-tinted glasses. It’s honestly kind of surprising to me that the script got past disney, given how they’ve gone about Star Wars.

This is basically my starwars story too, though I skipped book of boba fett, and watched obi wan. Obi wan was a huge miss for me, felt like it was 3 times longer than it really had the juice for.

All that said, I loved Andor and am excited for season 2, though I have basically no interest in any future Star Wars beyond it.
