It’s not just that I’m going to lose, it’s that I’m going to feel particularly bad about the loss after.

The case that came with the deck is great for protection, but too big to fit easily in my bag I take to work. The modcase provides enough protection to put the deck in a bag, and has made it a lot easier to take with me. dBrand did this first with the Killswitch case, but it was a bit more expensive than I was willing to pay. I think some other brands have since made their own versions of it, but I don’t have any experience with those.

The worst issues I know of with plugins were IsThereAnyDeal plugin was causing performance issues, and DeckyRecorder was causing some decks to be unable to switch to desktop mode.
Overall though it’s rare to have serious issues from Decky, especially on stable SteamOS. You may not want to install a bunch of unnecessary plugins that you won’t ever use, but you shouldn’t hesitate to use any that meet your needs. If you ever have steamOS issues (crashing/etc) you will want to disable decky and see if that fixes it before you contact Valve though.
It wraps around, you go low enough and you suddenly become a master.

Fubarberry@sopuli.xyzOPMto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Valve just gave Steam Deck owners a new way to organize and customize their game libraryEnglish56·17 days agoWhen you have your game library sorted alphabetically, some games aren’t grouped together like they really should be. For example, you might want all the Yakuza games grouped together, but the newer games are called like a dragon and are completely separate. You could now go and have the like a dragon games sorted as if they were also named Yakuza, so that all the games are grouped together.
Another example for me personally is that I have a bunch of Metroid games on my deck, and almost all of them are grouped together, except for Super Metroid and AM2R. Now I can move those to be listed alongside the other Metroid games.

The game just updated with to allow 2 players natively, so we’ll have to decide if we want to keep using the mod for the rare times when we have 4 people. Overall it’s been really fun, I’ve enjoyed it a lot.

I installed it to check the feature set but haven’t really used it besides that.

I believe this plugin allows you to set different power profiles for plugged in vs portable play. It’s not on the decky store for whatever reason (which is disappointingly common with new plugins), so you’ll have to install it manually.
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyzto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•"A guitarist who's also an astronaut" sounds more impressive than "An astronaut who plays the guitar", despite both meaning the same thing.English51·21 days agoI think astronaut has a higher skill floor than guitarist. I don’t mentally separate astronauts into categories like amateur/average/talented/expert, it’s just assumed that any astronaut is an expert. Leading with describing someone as a guitarist before you mention they’re an astronaut too implies that they’re also an expert guitarist.
So basically it’s the difference between:
-
An expert guitarist who’s also an expert astronaut
-
An expert astronaut who’s also an amateur guitar player.

A lot of married couples end up sleeping in different beds eventually, but I think king sized beds are a solution for that. You can share a bed and snuggle, but also can scoot away and have your own space if you’re having trouble sleeping. Best of both worlds.
Asking for money is fine, no one complains about having to buy Steam games. The dev is literally developing this full time, and there’s nothing wrong with him charging for it.
That said, he’s charging a lot. I feel like $40 is way too much for a subscription, especially considering how good the free alternatives are. I’m guessing this would have been more finacially successful at a lower price point, while also helping more people.
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyzto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Where are all the successful "red cities"?English0·26 days agoI suspect that’s just because of Birmingham, and possibly Mobile. They have pretty bad crime rates, and Birmingham is the state’s main “blue city”, at least based on how counties voted in the 2024 election.
Birmingham had a violent crime rate of 1440 per 100k, making it one the worst cities in the nation for violent crime.
Mobile had a crime rate of 825 per 100k. Mobile’s county was slightly red in the 2023 election.
Meanwhile Huntsville (who was slightly red in that same election) had a violent crime rate of 133 per 100k, and has been proudly claiming a 100% arrest and conviction rate for homicide cases. So to answer @yarr@feddit.nl’s question, I guess Huntsville is an example of a successful “red” city (although it may be less successful in coming years due to Trump’s NASA cuts).
Rural Alabama (excluding counties that were classified as metropolitan) had a violent crime rate of 248 per 100k, making it less safe than Huntsville but far better than the state average of 494 per 100k.
I’m not going to actually claim that the crime rate is just from politics, Huntsville has a big aerospace industry and it’s probably more of an education/class thing than anything else. But regardless those are the violent crime rate numbers for 2023, so feel free to draw your own conclusions.
Pretty cool, I didn’t know about the moonlight fork.
Probably going to see a lot of memes about Wii u running the newest most demanding games.

At least at the beginning of video game competitions, a lot of the kids are just fans of the game and aren’t bad to play against.
Running into a kid later in a tournament is humbling though.
