Cornish Rex. Most cats have 3 layers of fur - guard, mid, and down. Cornish Rex are missing the guard and mid layers, but have a full wavy down coat. They are incredibly soft, like petting a rabbit.

Is there a reason they only have the one type of fur layer, like are they from an area where they did not need the other layers of fur?

I mean obviously it might be Cornwall or whatever, that seems pretty chilly to not have the other layers of fur, and wet.

It’s just a random genetic mutation as far I know. Someone found a random kitten in a barn and thought “I’m going to turn this in to a new breed of cat!”. The Wikipedia article I linked has some of the details.

I have a Devon Rex, we live in the tropics. She thinks it’s freezing as soon as it gets below 25C 🙄. But then I just get more snuggles.
