An interview with historian Bryan Palmer about his trilogy of books on the continuing legacy of colonialism in Canada.
I am not a historian, but I guess we can all say that colonialism and the negative impacts are historical facts. What I am wondering is how this compares to contemporary colonial policies practiced today by large countries that are invading its neighbours, occupy foreign land, try to bully neighbouring countries to re-draw borders, or suppress minorities? How much has humanity learned form history?
This was a great read and I’m going to grab those books, they sound fascinating.
And he talk about something that is very important to me, the realization that Canada’s history of colonialism knows no race, it knows no gender, it knows no age, it knows no sex, it knows no nationality.
This historian puts the blame squarely where I also put it and it’s relieving to me and it feels very validating!
