I googled it after I shot the bird and acc. to Wikipedia Egrets are Herons… Since this one is white I figured it’s a white heron. But googling some more triggered by your question I understand now they are a distinct species and not a heron?

I’m not an expert, if it’s in the US it is probably an egret, I do not know what Eurasia has going on. Or Africa.
It’s in Canada
