Trump is currently attempting a fascist takeover of the economy and media system.
He has managed to intimidate American companies and universities into firing anyone who opposes the dead neo-Nazi Charlie Kirk. In a just world, you would get fired for supporting Charlie Kirk. After all, he is a Hitler-youth, Goebbels-style propagandist, who has said that black women have weaker brains, trans people are abominations, and that gay people should be stoned.
Our country is not that far gone. These positions are still extreme positions opposed by the majority of the country. And make no mistake, the companies doing these terminations are not doing this willingly: they fear government retaliation against their funding and businesses. Any college that does not comply with Trump’s state-mandated expulsions will have their education funding cut, will have right-wing stochastic terrorists come to their campus, and will generally have their existence threatened.
The same goes for private companies, even when they do not rely on government funding. Jimmy Kimmel, an extremely tame liberal show, was pulled by ABC after Trump’s FCC implied that it will interfere with ABC’s parent company’s merger.
With aggressive corruption and intimidation tactics, and with the support of congress and the supreme court, Trump has made himself above the law. Companies are not willing to defend their rights because they assume that they are already null and void. Trump will likely manipulate or cancel future elections, and will attempt to make himself immune to popular resistance, as if public support does not matter.
But of course, that is not how the world works. Trump may be above the law, but the law is never truly above the people, no matter how much the government tries to pretend otherwise. This was visible as recently as 2020, when left-wing riots and protests severely disrupted the American government and economy, and forced even right wing politicians speak negatively of police actions. Once working-class rage died down, they went back to their usual defamation of the victims of police brutality, but this still shows us their weakness.
So, does Trump actually have the support to aggressively use these fascist tactics? Does he have the 90% approval rating that George Bush took advantage of when he started the “War On Terror”?
Nope, not at all. Trump’s approval rating is 39%, the lowest since the start of his term.
While the right cries wolf about left wing violence, support for left wing violence has honestly gotten a lot more popular. Normally tame liberals are joking about Trump needing to be shot. The death of his propagandist caused celebration on twitter, even with the right-wing basically threatening to gangstalk and terrorize anyone who even went as far as quoting his fascist words.
While ICE aggressively attacks minority groups, they are still forced to operate in secret, wearing plainclothes and hiding their faces. When the agents of the state are unwilling to trust the state to protect them, it implies that the state is not as strong as it seems.
Among Trump’s most aggressive and violent supporters, the far-right, there actually isn’t much support at all, at least relative to past support. Many are angry about his pedophilia, his support for Israel, and his dismantling of the economy. Trump’s podcaster FBI leadership is currently desperately trying to pin Kirk’s death on trans people. Considering that the far-right basically spends every waking second of their free time harassing and terrorizing trans people and anyone who defends them, you would think that they would love this false flag behavior, but they don’t. They see it as a distraction from a potential Israeli assassination, which on its surface is honestly not an unreasonable position to take (under the surface, it is pure antisemitism rather than antifascism, but that is to be expected of the right wing). Outside of his openly and proudly bootlicking supporters, there are two groups that have made his progress possible: MAGA corporate elite, and the Democrat party.
~70% of top executives support the Republican party and Trump.
When you see a company rapidly conceding to Trump even when they have the power and profit motive to refuse this, this is probably why. Yes, they want to get in on the corruption, yes it is beneficial for their profits to stay on the side of the fascist government, but many of these companies are sabotaging themselves as well by doing this.
Siding with a completely dysfunctional group that is both deeply unpopular and impossible to sustainably please is probably not good for customer demand or economic stability.
Regardless of how much Facebook amplified right wing propaganda, Conservatives still accused it of “censoring” their side. No matter how many students Columbia University harassed and assaulted for opposing genocide, Trump still cut their funding. Trump’s government is impossible to appease.
This irrational behavior comes from radicalized executives that are betraying both their shareholders and their customers.
Side note: Looking at TikTok’s behavior, they were most successful in delaying their ban when they made a mockery of Republicans in congress, and when they loosened up their algorithms to political content without biasing for conservatives, causing Trump’s ban to look like the blatant censorship it is. But this is not necessary for most companies: the most effective tactic is to simply stay silent, as taking anything other than a far-right position will bring retaliation from the government, and a far-right position will of course bring retaliation from customers.
Anyway, the second reason is the Democrat party. This party is purely controlled opposition, and has been more blatant about this in the past few years. Every time they found success, they moved right to ensure that it disappeared. Every time there was a hint of leftist sentiment among the working class, they have hijacked it to bring it back to the right.
They obsess over an increasingly incoherent and increasingly nonexistent group of right wing “swing voters” rather than boosting turnout within their much larger left-wing base because they have no interest in motivating left wing voters or passing left wing policies. It is far easier to motivate more of the 45% of the population to turn out than it is to motivate a right winger to vote for a less enthusiastic right wing, but they simply are unwilling to follow this approach. They will take any opportunity to move right wing because they are right wing.
Now that Trump is dismantling the government, claiming that the bootlicking Democrat party is a terrorist organization, and is generally preparing to nullify any future elections, is the Democrat “opposition” party doing anything? Nope, other than blaming leftists on twitter, the only thing they are doing is passing Trump’s budgets, approving his cabinet members, supporting his takeover of Tiktok, and mourning the death of his fascist propagandists. They are more silent than they have ever been, as if they are trying to make people forget that they exist, which makes sense since their agenda (supporting Trump) has a pretty low approval rating.
This lack of organization is why Trump has been unopposed, and this lack of organization is the Democrat party’s goal. There are plenty of people willing to protest. In the same way that Trump drummed up fanatical support for an irrelevant podcaster, it is possible to drum up support for any one of his victims. Quite literally, most of the country would support them.
In the end, we will need to move past these groups. True leftist groups and unions will need to take action independently, and in opposition to Democrats. Trump has attacked multiple sensitive targets, and will continue to do so in the future. There have been plenty of “triggers” that have come, gone, and stayed around. Teacher’s unions are plenty strong, and yet they did not take action when their members were falsely terminated for mild criticism of Charlie Kirk. They were probably scared of federal retaliation, but again, Trump can not be appeased, so this is a losing strategy.
“Vanguard” parties like PSL still seem to not be taking the situation seriously, and are not responding that aggressively at all. I’m sure that these things take a lot of planning, and it is beneficial for the rage to grow further, but if they are trying to be a vanguard and be at the front, they need to move a bit quicker, especially in terms of propaganda. Intelligence agency entrapment is real, but when nonpolitical types are joking about someone needing to “do it” to Trump, it would make sense to be more rhetorically aggressive.
One more thing about the public: the economy is shit. The “nothing to lose but their chains” portion of the population is growing pretty rapidly. Trump does not have any room to push the working class, and since the economic issues are stagflation-related, the Fed will not be able to bail him out.
Anyway, I’ve talked about the public enough. What about Trump’s government’s response? Will it be able to manage these protests and defuse them?
…lmao
Trump’s government is filled with brutal, corrupt, and incompetent grifters, who are not even able to manage the government in normal circumstances, let alone during a widespread protest.
The ICE gestapo is desperately trying to boost recruitment, advertising huge benefits such as a $50k sign-on bonus. The main recruits they are getting are far right sociopathic types that are joining in order to harm people.
Do you think these types of people will act professional when faced with left wing protests? They will not. They will kill or severely brutalize people, which is unfortunate but will also strengthen leftist movements.
Trump has even moved random FBI agents to go after migrants, which is likely to be repeated if large protests start happening. These agents are used to dealing with violent and dangerous criminals, from drug cartels to sex traffickers, and are untrained for handling minor crimes and civil unrest. They will end up escalating things by accident.
After one of his grifting supporters pushed lies about the situation, Trump’s ICE raided Hyundai’s new EV manufacturing plant in Georgia for no real reason, and treated the legal workers there so badly that South Korea is investigating human rights abuses. His “supporters” will happily destabilize his government just to get a bit of reach on twitter.
Once the US starts retaliating, will the podcaster FBI be able to dismantle protests the way it has done so effectively in the past? I doubt it.
Fascist governments always destroy themselves. Sometimes they kill a large number of people before they do, but they always destroy themselves, and every person that fights back speeds that up.
The right wing and liberal media are desperately trying to paint a narrative of invincibility and nihilism, where Trump has popular support and his fascist takeover is inevitable and permanent. Winning a popular vote by less than 1% in an election where Kamala intentionally crushed left wing turnout is not a “mandate” whatsoever. This government is more fragile than it ever was. Do not let the media or paid democrat shills manufacture your consent.
idk man, hitler was pretty popular
I’m not a man.
Hitler was popular; that doesn’t mean Nazi ideology itself was popular.
