Gaming@beehaw.org•Phil Spencer: "getting [acquiring] Nintendo would be a career moment for me"; Nintendo's future "exists off of their own hardware"
8·2 years ago@Dark_Arc weirdly all my old consoles and games work. I’ve definitely made more e-waste from PC and upgrades over the years than consoles. (let’s not talk about phones…)

6·2 years ago@ampersandrew @UrLogicFails okay but how is Nintendo worse than other companies in that regard? Is microsoft or Sony better at the preservation than them in some way I don’t understand? Are they better companies to support in that metric?
As for the kid thing, they don’t really get much pick in the matter of what game I let them try yet. It’s just that I can’t FIND any games outside of Nintendos stuff that is quality and fun for the family. It’s mostly poor quality IP tie ins. I’ve looked!

10·2 years ago@ampersandrew @UrLogicFails better is subjective for sure. But if you got a list of better games I can play with my 5 year old, I’m honestly all ears. So far nothing is beating Mario Odyssey and Pokémon Eevee.
Preservation wise and business practice wise I’m also not sure of anyone is ‘good’, but I’d again be more than happy to be better educated on the subject.

12·2 years ago@ampersandrew @UrLogicFails worst thing I could think of would be yearly bland releases barely worth playing and gutting the innovation they bring.
It’s not like every release is brilliant or great (looking at you pokemon violet/scarlet), but look at what happened to Blizzard pre and post acquisition.

23·2 years ago@ampersandrew @UrLogicFails for better or worse Nintendo does things their own way. You can bet you’d see yearly mario kart releases if that IP belonged to anyone else, and I don’t think that would be for the better.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Videogame fantasy settings are staler than mouldy bread right now
5·2 years ago@Pheonixdown @alyaza I had alot of fun doing a bares bones prototype of gravity lashing in 2d. Storm light is just ripe for all sorts of video game adaptations.
Definitely a project I wanna revisit someday.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Are you an intrinsically or extrinsically motivated gamer?
1·2 years ago@frank ya the. Second one really wasn’t as good somehow to me. But with the cozy game trend atm it feels like a new entry would do well.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Are you an intrinsically or extrinsically motivated gamer?
3·3 years ago@bijuice I recall when achievements were still kinda new and weird a little game called viva pinata. While it was a creative sandbox of sorts, the achievements essentially guided you to get ‘everything’ the game had to offer, and it ended up being one of the only ‘monster catching’ games I actually finished completely and loved.
I think that’s probably the way to do it. Freedom to do what you want, but a guide to encourage you to do most of it.

1·3 years ago@PersistentDreamer @gaming@beehaw.org @gaming@kbin.social @gaming@lemmy.ml its been a beautiful mess working with them. People have egos, and games are sort of art by committee… Feelings were sometimes hurt, painful cuts made. It’s been a fun year and a half but it’s been tough too!
I’ll be making sure they see your compliment right now, cuz it really does mean alot to all of us. Thanks!

@Assassassin @Agent_Karyo
Our first game barely got past 10 reviews in a 2 years, despite real original assets etc. It just didn’t click with people. While ‘filtering out the slop’ will improve the numbers, I’m sure there are many games in a similar boat as ours.
