I’m giving Stoat.Chat a go this evening. Looks promising as a self-host alternative.

Huh. The more you know. In my head, I always imagine them as delicate, but this makes sense.

I’m who they make the 98% for. I honestly like the taste of almost fully bitter chocolate. I generally pair it with a drink because of how dry it is, but I enjoy the crumble of it and the taste is I guess something most people don’t like. I rather enjoy it.
Good point. And the more I thought about it, the wings would definitely fail with all that extra weight. Still, I get more of a photoshop vibe from this than a generated vibe if that’s the case.

You’re right. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. But for those few games that don’t run you get:
Computers are more than video game machines. I made the final switch away from Windows because I wanted to be treated like a person, not a customer.
It’s a lot more about philosophy than functionality. When something doesn’t work in Linux, I know it’s a genuine mistake someone made and that it wasn’t intentional. M$ has infinite money and they can’t even figure out how to keep the Sleep function working while at the same time forcing you to sign up for an account that they can choose to cancel for any reason whenever they feel like.
You don’t own your PC on Windows.
Which is
A: disappointing
and
B: scary
I basically have to pixel-peep and even then, you have to look at it like you’re reviewing evidence. The masses were never meant to have to evaluate something like this. I miss when things were photoshop.

I’m here, for starters.
I’ve been systematically removing as many parts of myself from the corporate internet over the course of years. So far I’ve managed to drop:
I still have some stragglers, like YouTube, that I doubt will go anytime soon, but for the most part, I don’t have to deal with:
Really, I just do not like being advertised to, and outside YouTube sponsorships, which can be skipped, I can go whole days without ever coming across an ad on the internet, and even that feels high.
On top of all this, I’ve massively reduced my data collection footprint, meaning there’s far less info available to said advertisers and data collectors that they can use to manipulate me.
I also regularly try to provide some of this to my friends to also help cut them away from the propaganda machine.
I don’t see any of the usual AI tells and there’s no ‘melting’ of people close to each other. Plus the landing gear being down makes me think this was a real plane but photoshopped.
Was this some sort of promotional photo or something? Kind of wish I could tell where it came from. Got nothing on tineye. Has AI just gotten that clean?

I have an M1 Pro that’s still going strong without issues, even with 8GB RAM. They’re insanely durable (repair issues aside) and MacOS is wildly good at resource management.
On top of that, putting it below Windows? This is clearly someone who’s never used one or thinks gaming is the only thing you do on a computer. I’m all for Linux and use it in several places, but it has nothing on MacOS polish. Sure, it’s not perfect, but it’s a far cry from ChromeOS or Windows 11.
This is basically what DnD was made for with the multi class system. You can do all sorts of fun combos.
Imagine being a grown adult, and a government official throwing hateful tweets at a puppet
I wish there was an easy way to test this, but I got two weeks into my setup before I noticed performance issues because it was only affecting some of my games. This is still a good idea, just not a guarantee.
Worth mentioning that if you’re on AMD, you’re pretty much open for choice. If you have nVidia, make sure the OS you go with calls out nVidia support as a feature. Even then, your specific config may require that you try out a couple before finding the right fit.
I personally tried Bazzite and had a rough experience with performance and haven’t had issues on EndeavorOS, but have read reports from other nVidia users that had the opposite experience. All to say, your mileage may vary, and don’t give up right away if the first one doesn’t feel right.

To counter that, the open source scene is bigger than it’s ever been and is potentially on track to start making waves in the mass market. That’s a big thing that I feel was not the case in the 2010s. There’s way more DIY going on in the 2020s I feel. So not all bad at least.

Seconded. When I find out how botched the theatrical ending was, I was glad I started with the Director’s version.
Concordtinople sounds like a place you’d make up on the spot if you were trying to hide your identity.
I can’t remember if he eats anyone but season 3 of You has a lot of this going for it.
I had missed that it doesn’t have voice support. The closest thing to a relatively simple setup I’ve found is VoceChat. It doesn’t self-host voice, but lets you link in a third party known as Agora, who offers free monthly voice minutes, but they’re still a third party. The setup wasn’t the worst, but definitely took careful reading.
