I will say that in the 90s and 00s, the teaching was that we don’t do slavery anymore. Very explicit that slavery is bad, but its in the past so no worries. This has led to a lot of people born in the 80s and 90s becoming aware of this reality much later into their adult lives.

My guess is most of them still think slavery is “solved” in America. Most people aren’t going to look at most of the brands in their grocery store and think, “slave labor helped bring me this product.”

Yeah, they sorta gloss over that part in school when we learn about this stuff.

The forced labour part is relatively new-ish. I think the average American has no idea about the slave labour involved in their daily lives.

No, it changes effects. Most other drugs the effects just get stronger and stronger. For example the respiratory depression from opiates progresses to the point breathing isn’t achievable. Alcohol progressively affects different parts of the brain, which causes different effects. So you have both the current effects worsening, plus adding more as you go that also get worse.

Its one of the few drugs that actually gets worse the more you use it. We should be more honest and strict about how much someone should be allowed to drink, especially in public. Alcohol should be given an extremely short leash.

If you had to pick either healthy or unhealthy, a drink a day would fall under unhealthy, but it also might be statistically irrelevant due to having such a small impact.

I do think its worth noting that alcohol does actually change its effects the more you drink though. The effects of intoxication don’t just increase, they cascade to other parts of the brain. Someone who consistently stays under one drink is essentially on a different drug than someone who draws the line at three.

I think social media has affected this as well. Video and pictures mean people don’t want to embarrass themselves as much. Also, marijuana is legal in a lot of places and doesn’t mix with alcohol as well for everyone.

I honestly can’t think of a thing I’d want to backup. Game saves, resumes, media. Its all replaceable and not worth backing up. I dont think I have a single “important” document or picture or anything.

In order to provide fish for people to eat, there’s a thing called bycatch, which is catching things you don’t intend to catch. If there’s a cute underwater animal you like, chances are we murder many of them as bycatch.

What else is there, let’s see. Male egg laying chickens are born and then immediately blended alive, that’s so we can have eggs on our shelves at the price they are. Dairy cows aren’t immediately killed but have horrible short lives and are then killed for lack of milk production. That meat is poor quality so we feed it to our pets.

This doesn’t sound like a new thing to me, just more of the same cruelty for profits sake.
