Terry Fox. One of humanity’s gems.
Just got back from our camp where I’m doing renovations. It’s only accessible by boat so all supplies have to be loaded in the trailer, brought to the boat, loaded in the boat, brought to the camp, then unloaded onto the dock. Makes for slow going, but the peace and beauty out there make up for it. Today, I’m going to church, picking up groceries for the week, then heading back to camp.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Driving when you're old must be wonderful. They can't hear when people honk and can't see their finger. They must smile and imagine the frustration of all those impatient drivers.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•BYD Song Ultra EV shakes up the industry with 5-minute fast charging, 22k USD
2·2 months agoMost northern communities have a concentration of people and then it’s a long way to go to get to the next community. So, there’s a bunch of short drives and the occasional long drive.

195·2 months agoI’d really love to see how one of these does here in Northern Canada. There are almost no electric vehicles here because of the performance of batteries in the long, cold winter.

We play speed Uno. If you have the identical card as the card that’s played, you can lay it down if you get it to the pile before the person whose turn it is lays down theirs. Play then continues from you.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you pronounce zebra in your country: zeebra or rhymes with Debra?

News@lemmy.world•Amsterdam bans public adverts for meat and fossil fuels
76·2 months agoMany companies like websites, tv, radio, etc. depend on the revenues from advertisers to pay their workers and expenses. If they didn’t have that, everything would likely turn to susbscription or a regular pleading for money so they could continue.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The word "expert" is used frequently in news headlines, but its meaning is notoriously vague.
6·3 months agoYes. I have a strong opinion on the subject and have shared it extensively among my close friends.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those in countries with universal healthcare, what's it like?
5·3 months agoCanada. You don’t pay for a broken arm or a checkup. You only pay for things like physiotherapy or massage. Dentisit is covered if you’re old, young, or not making much money. Pharmacy is covered (with a small fee) if you’re old. The emergency room works on a triage system so, if you’re not seriously sick, you’ll probably wait a long time. There are long wait times for specialists in some areas. I can’t speak for everyone, but the care my extended family and I have received has been excellent.
