Alive. Not completely consumed by despair. I count that as a win and a good day.

9·1 day agoBecause I disagree they know shit about Gaza or USAID or DOGE
They don’t know shit about those things because they discard any information that makes them uncomfortably while privileging any information that affirms their pre-existing position or prejudices. I pride myself that I’m pretty good at arguing with people, and IRL, I tend to take a much softer tone because I have to deal with these fucks day-in and day-out. There’s no block function in meatworld if I find them too tedious. And let me tell you - you can lay it out in terms they absolutely understand, and in a week, a day, an hour, they will revert to their prior position. They don’t ‘forget’ what was said, they disregard it. “Well, it’s just my opinion. Who knows what’s true anyway? There’s a lot of lies on both sides.”
Their positions are not predicated on their knowledge, nor are they interested in retaining knowledge that contradicts their positions.
and we want H4A so how are we gonna get there when they keep voting in whoever’s on tv?

Fucked if I know. Really wish that ‘demographic destiny’ bullshit peddled in the late 2000s worked out better.

15·1 day agoI hear ya, and I so get it. But look, these people aren’t trying to be evil or whatever.
I grew up in Appalachia.
These people do not have bad hearts insofar as they’re not sociopaths. They’re very capable of kindness and love, even towards total strangers.
But they bear a set of bizarre values that absolutely ends up with them trying to be, by our standards, evil.
I have enough secret private thoughts and memories that I KNOW I want no one to ever know that future me could easily just mention one of them and I’d be like, “Shit, that really is me, no one else knows I went to grab an orange when a skit from Freakazoid told me to one morning watching cartoons alone”

68·7 days agoExplanation: Nikola Tesla was a prolific and wildly influential inventor of the early 20th century AD. He also was in constant dire financial straits despite not having any major expensive vices (other than inventing), because, unlike his contemporary Thomas Edison, Tesla was not adept at maneuvering business deals (and certainly not with the cutthroat ruthlessness that Edison displayed - several times at Tesla’s expense).
Capitalism is better than feudalism because it rewards a wider range of intellectual ability and success than feudalism does… but that range still does not include innovation. You wanna be paid for your innovation in a capitalist system? Better have a lawyer and a business agent on hand as soon as you get out of the patent office. :/

5·8 days agoDon’t worry, I have conservative family. I can assure you that the talking point of “We’ve already sent enough to Ukraine” has already established itself.
Gender non-conforming; that is to say presenting in a way that is not according to social standards for one’s gender.
Obviously, this is all your choice in the end, but I got rotated on like, 5 drugs until they found one that worked for me and didn’t have any significant side effects. Asking your doc, and specifically pointing out that you don’t want a specific drug or have tried it before and found it ineffective, is always an option. I fought with asking my doctors to try different drugs for the longest time, but when I worked up to it, it was super smooth and easy.
I’ve found prescriptions to be life-changing, and speaking as someone that is not exactly caffeine-shy.

Explanation: In the 16th century AD, England’s king, Henry VIII, wanted to get rid of his wife, Catherine of Aragon, so he could remarry and (hopefully) produce a male heir, because the past is super shitty like that. Catherine of Aragon was related to the King of Spain, however, who had significant leverage over the Catholic Church at the time - so when Henry VIII asked the Pope for an annulment, he was refused.
… Henry VIII then proceeded to form his own church, divorce Catherine, and remarry 5 times. “Divorced, beheaded, and died; divorced, beheaded, survived!”
