This is widely credited as the origin of modern reality tv, but it’s not completely true. The earliest reality shows I can remember are Road Rules and The Real World, and those both predate the strike.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don't protestors who oppose Trump/ICE open carry their guns to prevent what's currently occuring in the US ie kidnapping, assaults etc?
29·2 months agoBest and simplest answer is that technically they’re still considered law enforcement. Nearly everything they’re doing is constitutionally illegal, but only the courts have the right to determine that.
If we start threatening police with guns, every single nook and cranny of our legal system justifies the police murdering us. Maybe some cops would get paid leave for a few weeks, or possibly even lose their badges, but that’s about it.
And then they’ll use it to justify an even more inflated budget for ICE, and everything will get exponentially worse.
I think this is precisely how math is taught through Common Core now.

News@lemmy.world•Beloved 'Reading Rainbow' returns after nearly 20 years with new host Mychal Threets
21·2 months agoThey literally did steal it from Levar Burton though. He created it and owned it, and has championed childhood reading for decades. He partnered a media group to do more with the brand, and then when he was talking with Netflix about a potential show, the group sued him for not asking them first. They ended up with all the rights and left Burton in the dust.
Pretty freakin’ ghoulish.

57·2 months agoSo some garbage media group stole something beautiful from one of the nicest people to ever live, and they immediately hollowed it out to a soulless husk and shat something out of it.
Every single person involved should be deeply ashamed of themselves.
There is a pretty famous Mitch Hedburg bit about that same exact thing. People used to quote his jokes a lot online. I wonder if, instead of a poem, that was what you read.

Mint is very user-friendly, and can utilize all the handy apps that are packaged for Ubuntu. I don’t really enjoy the default interface of Ubuntu (it feels like a mobile OS in a lot of ways). Mint really does a good job of stripping that down and recreating a basic windows-like experience., while taking advantage of all the compatibility and software support that Ubuntu has.
but also the shadows of the cars and the fact that you couldn’t park those cars on soft dirt without disrupting the grass or sinking into the ground a little bit, plus the fact that usually grass next to water doesn’t look like that unless it’s on a golf course
